About the Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Inc.

The Des Moines Woodworkers Association is a non-profit association dedicated to fellowship, education, and community service for those of all skill levels in the field of woodworking. . We have over 200 members from 30 Iowa cities as well as cities in Nebraska & Illinois.

Members come together once a month (2nd Tuesday evening) to share ideas and projects as well as hear a featured presenter on a topic of interest to the general membership The association is operated by member volunteers who are elected by the general membership.

A monthly newsletter is published and distributed to all members and interested parties the first week of the month. See section on How to Join to learn more about a complimentary newsletter for newly interested individuals.

Members enjoy membership discounts at leading area suppliers including The Woodsmith Store, Paxton Woodcrafters, Puckett Tools and Fasteners, Kel-Welco, O’Donnell’s Hardware and the Woodcraft Store..

How to Join the Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Inc.

Anyone of any skill level is welcome to join the association. All you need is an interest in learning more about woodworking. Most meetings are attended by 50 or more individuals who are all anxious to learn and share their woodworking experience with others.

Guests are welcome to visit a meeting at no charge.

Membership dues in 2000 are $25 for new members, $20 for members who renew. Membership includes a membership card that provides discounts at leading Des Moines area woodworking suppliers.. Dues are prorated during the year as follows:

  • If you join between Jan 1 and Apr 30 – $25.00 gives you membership until the end of the calendar year.
  • If you join between May 1 and Aug 31 – $20.00 gives you membership until the end of the calendar year.
  • If you join between Sep 1 and Dec 31 – $15.00 gives you membership until the end of the calendar year.

We’ll send you a copy of the most current issue. Those wishing to subscribe to the newsletter can do so at $8 a year to cover the cost of printing and postage.

MEETING SCHEDULES

The Des Moines Woodworkers Association, Inc. meets on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, January – May, September – December. Occasional summer events are also held.

WHERE: Drake University, Harvey Ingham Science Building, Room 104 (Unless we are on a field trip) Always check current newsletter for actual meeting location, date and time.

WHEN: 2nd Tuesday of month. Doors open at 6:30PM for networking, meeting starts at 7:00PM and usually lasts until 9:00PM.

WHAT: Typical meeting format includes short Business Meeting, discussion of Community Service Projects, member Show ‘n’ Tell, Question / Answers, Main Program Speaker, Tool Raffle & Refreshments.

NEXT MEETING: Summer Schedule

During the summer months we suspend our regular meetings. This year, each of the summer months we’ll take tours of Iowa companies. Here’s the schedule:

June 6 – tour Pella Window Company in Pella, IA. Tour begins at 9:00AM. Those wishing to car pool or caravan to the tour site should meet inside the University Avenue entrance to the Iowa State Fairgrounds in time to depart at 8:00AM promptly.

July 11 – tour Woodhaven Manufacturing in Durant, IA. Tour begins at 1:00PM. Those wishing to car pool or caravan to the tour site should meet at the NW corner of the Prairie Meadows parking lot in time to depart at 9:30AM promptly. We’ll stop for lunch in Amana or Iowa City along the way.

Monday, August 14 – tour R.S. Bacon Veneer Plant in Grundy Center, IA. Tour begins at 2:00PM. Those wishing to car pool or caravan to the tour site should meet at the NW corner of the Prairie Meadows parking lot in time to depart at 12:30PM promptly.

Our regular fall meetings will resume in September. Here are the meeting dates for the rest of the year.

Sep 12 – Woodclub meeting, Location and Subject to be announced, 7:00 PM.

Oct 10 – Wodclub meeting, Location and Subject to be announced, 7:00 PM.

Nov 14 – Woodclub meeting, Drake meeting location, 7:00 PM, Subject to be announced.

Dec 12 – Woodclub meeting, Botanical Center, 7:00 PM, spouses & significant others welcome.
